Some people in the military believe that transitioning out of the military and becoming a college student is a breeze. You've gone to war, you've endured the suck, so what could be so hard about handling professors and kids (your classmates)? Let me tell you, the transition into being a college student can be difficult. But here are the 5 B's to ensure that you have a great post military college experience.
On the morning of May 29th, 2012, I entered the Grand Hyatt Atlanta Buckhead wearing a blue dress shirt, a tie, and slacks. My shoes and belt matched and I was motivated. I even wore my USMC tie clasp as proof. I was taking my first steps into the civilian job market. With everything I'd learned and had been through in the Marines, I was ready. Specifically, I was attending an H2H job fair as well as resume and transition counseling hosted by GE's Veteran's Network.
Transitioning out of the military does not need to be a tricky or complicated proposition. Know that being a veteran in this day in age can be a challenge but know that it is one of your greatest assets. All you need to do is figure out how to best leverage this experience.
